Scott Oelslager News

State Rep. Scott Oelslager (R–North Canton), who sits on the State Controlling Board, announced that the body today approved Stark State College, COVID-19 relief, and Educational Service Centers (ESCs) funding. The Stark State College funding is for several infrastructure projects while the COVID-19 relief will be allocated to local governments across Ohio.

“I’m honored to sit on this body to ensure these funds can be directed toward our local higher education institution of Stark State College,” said Oelslager. “The additional measures are critical investments to continue to combat challenges from COVID-19 and to assist those within our early childhood education system.”

Specifically, the following measures Oelslager has highlighted include:

  • $1,256,805 in funding to Stark State College for infrastructure improvements;
  • $175 million in COVID-19 relief appropriations for the distribution to local governments throughout the state; and
  • $18 million for Education Service Centers, Boards of Developmental Disabilities, and the Ohio School for the Deaf and the Ohio School for the Blind. The Stark County ESC will receive $626,100 and the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities will receive $106,778. These funds are being made available through the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund Grant from the CARES Act.

The $175 million in COVID-19 relief to local governments comes from the federal CARES Act initiative. The measure is similar to the approval of $350 million to help local governments by the Ohio legislature under House Bill 481, which Oelslager supported and was signed into law over the summer.

The next scheduled Controlling Board meeting is set for Sept. 14.
