Rep. Lipps Applauds Medicaid Managed Care Re-Procurement

P. Scott Lipps News

COLUMBUS—State Representative Scott Lipps (R-Franklin) applauds the Ohio Department of Medicaid and Governor DeWine for taking the next steps towards reimagining the Ohio Medicaid program.

For years, Medicaid has needed to improve basic services to patients and providers alike. The problems have varied greatly over the years, but Representative Lipps has worked to resolve many of them during his time in the legislature. The Representative from Warren County has tackled Pharmacy Benefit Managers and their draconian practices that overcharged $223.7 million dollars from Ohio taxpayers. Additionally, Rep. Lipps has worked to make the business model for local pharmacists and providers more sustainable, especially in areas with a high Medicaid population.

In response to the findings over the last two years, the DeWine administration has responded by starting a procurement process for new managed care vendors that hopes to fix some of the most glaring problems in the program. One of the new approaches for Medicaid managed care includes moving to a single pharmacy benefit manager.

“It is reassuring that all of our hard work is paying off,” said Rep. Lipps.  “Under the leadership of Governor DeWine and Medicaid Director Corcoran, I believe we can make significant changes that will increase transparency and decrease costs of the Medicaid program while simultaneously improving care for patients.”

Rep. Lipps encourages all providers, individuals and others impacted by these coming changes to participate in Medicaid’s second round of Request for Information (RFI).
