Michael J. Skindell News

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Michael J. Skindell (D-Lakewood) & Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg) today introduced bipartisan legislation to rejoin the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Compact (MIPRC).

“Ohio was originally in the MIPRC from 2002 until 2013” said Rep. Skindell. “Rejoining this commission is essential to promoting the growth and development of interstate passenger rail access in Ohio and supporting communication among other midwestern states. It will give Ohio a seat at the table.”

Formed by a compact agreement in 2000, MIPRC's current members are Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The main goals of this legislation are to:

  • Promote current and long-term plans for intercity passenger rail services in the Midwest
  • Coordinate interaction among Midwestern state officials between public and private sector at all levels
  • Support current state efforts being conducted through state departments of transportation

The legislation awaits a bill number and assignment to a House Committee.
