The Ohio House of Representatives approved the historic Strategic Community Investment Fund, as part of Substitute House Bill 2.
The Strategic Community Investment Fund includes $350 million for statewide, regional, and local projects, nearly $15 million of which will be directed toward Summit County and the surrounding communities. The fund was established under the state’s main operating budget passed in 2023 and includes excess funding from the previous fiscal year.
Due to ongoing conservative fiscal stewardship, I was able to secure the following one-time funding for projects in Summit County:
- $2.5 million to expand the Akron-Canton Airport, boosting the aviation industry in Ohio;
- $2 million to establish a new immersive space at the Akron Art Museum fostering fun;
- $1.5 million to construct a regional fire training complex in Cuyahoga Falls, with space for 50 students.
- $1.75 million to support the Akron Zoo Veterinary Hospital, ensuring the animals get the care they deserve;
- $1.25 million to revitalize land for CHC Addiction Services creating a pharmacy, a health center, and a centralized in and out-patient services increasing accessibility to care; and
- $1 million to renovate Barberton City Hall into the Barberton Justice Center.
These investments will be incorporated as part of the greater State Capital Budget bill, a two-year construction budget for capital projects.
