State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the approval of state funding for Firelands Local School District as they move forward with their plan to construct a new high school building. The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, which oversees capital projects for Ohio’s public schools, authorized the spending.

“Capable school facilities are essential in giving Ohio’s students and teachers the tools they need to succeed in a modern economy,” said Rep. Miller. “I applaud the hard work done by local and state officials to ensure Firelands High School can best serve the next generation.”

The state will contribute $5,297,765 to the nearly $28,000,000 project. The state share of the project now awaits final approval by the Ohio Controlling Board. Firelands Local School District secured its local share with a bond issue in 2018.
