State Rep. Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announces the BroadbandOhio Connectivity Grant Program application window for schools has officially opened today. Recently, the state Controlling Board approved an allocation of $50 million for the program that will be used to provide hotspots and internet enabled devices for students.

“High quality Internet access across the state is surely going to be more important than ever as schools find solutions to the challenges of this pandemic as we approach the beginning of the academic year,” said Manning. “This is why I encourage our local schools to check out what this program has to offer.”

School districts have begun to make purchases, and purchases made since July 1 of this year are eligible for support from this program. Schools can begin applying for this grant opportunity at https://ohio-k12.help/broadbandohio-connectivity-grant/.

Additionally, in order to help schools with their purchasing decisions, internet providers have begun to list their equipment and pricing information in one centralized location to the benefit of Ohio schools through a Request for Information. Manning suggests schools visit procure.ohio.gov to review the RFI.

The program is part of the state’s multi-tiered response to COVID-19 and the application period will close on Friday, August 21.
