Statement from State Representative Swearingen

July 30, 2020
D. J. Swearingen News

State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) has issued the following statement:

“Today, I joined my colleagues in voting to revoke the leadership role of Speaker of the House from Larry Householder. Householder must address the serious allegations against him, and, upon further news today of a federal grand jury moving forward with the indictment, it’s clear that Householder cannot effectively lead the Ohio House at this time.

“Today’s unanimous vote was vital for the integrity of our institution in moving forward for the people of Ohio. I will keep working for all of the people in the 89th House District by addressing issues that matter most to my constituents like good jobs, affordable health care, and all of the difficulties that COVID has presented to us. Most importantly, the government must work for the people it represents at all times.

“I am excited for the next chapter of the Ohio House of Representatives as the decision was made to elect our new Speaker of the House, Bob Cupp. I am hopeful and optimistic that Speaker Cupp will bring respect and justice to the Ohio House. I anticipate having thorough discussions with our new Speaker to promote the voices I represent within my district. It’s time we look to the future and continue to instill positive change for all Ohioans moving forward.”
