COLUMBUS – State Representatives Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) and Erica Crawley (D-Columbus), both veterans of the United States Armed Forces, introduced a resolution Tuesday calling on Congress to convene oversight hearings into recently revealed information that a Russian military intelligence unit offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants in exchange for the killing of American soldiers and other coalition forces in Afghanistan.

“Bounties on American soldiers puts Ohioans at risk,” said Rep. Weinstein. “Almost 400 members of the Ohio National Guard were deployed in support of U.S. Central Command in June alone. We need to know how this happened and why there hasn’t been an official response from the federal government.”

“Members of the United States Armed Forces dedicate their lives to serving this country and their dedication is almost always met with respect by the American people,” said Rep. Crawley. “When threats against their lives are made, it is the responsibility of federal government to investigate and do everything in their power to protect the lives of those who dedicate their lives to fighting for our freedoms.”

The resolution currently awaits a number and referral to a House Committee for consideration.
