Rep. Liston: Misguided bailout costly for consumers, Ohio's clean energy future

State Rep. Beth Liston (D-Dublin) today issued a statement in opposition to House Bill (HB) 6, a Republican-sponsored bill to bail out Ohio’s nuclear power plants and subsidize two additional coal-fired power plants that service the state. The bill also guts Ohio’s renewable and energy efficiency standards, which opponents say will hurt job growth in emerging clean energy industries.

“This legislation sacrifices our renewable energy standards and our energy efficiency standards in order to support a single company,” said Rep. Liston. “Given the significant health impacts associated with air pollution and climate change, I could not support this misguided approach.”

More than 112,000 Ohioans currently work in the clean energy sector, ranking 8th in the country and 3rd in the region.

After passing the House, HB 6 now heads to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
